Background of the Study

Ethical human resource (HR) practices are increasingly recognized as essential for fostering a positive work environment, enhancing employee satisfaction, and ensuring sustainable organizational growth (Smith & Cooper, 2024). Ethical HR practices encompass a variety of activities, including fair hiring processes, transparent decision-making, equal opportunities for all employees, and a commitment to employee welfare and well-being. In the banking sector, where trust, reputation, and employee morale play a crucial role in organizational success, ethical HR practices are particularly significant.

Zenith Bank Plc, a leading financial institution in Nigeria, operates in a highly competitive environment where ethical standards not only determine legal compliance but also influence long-term organizational performance. Ethical HR practices, such as transparent recruitment processes, fairness in performance appraisals, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, can positively affect employee satisfaction, motivation, and retention, thereby contributing to the growth of the organization. However, despite the growing recognition of ethical practices, there remains a gap in understanding the specific impact of these practices on organizational growth in the context of Zenith Bank, Nasarawa State.

Statement of the Problem

While ethical HR practices have been widely discussed in the literature, their direct impact on organizational growth, particularly in the context of Zenith Bank Plc, Nasarawa State, has not been thoroughly explored. There is a need to evaluate whether the bank’s ethical HR practices are contributing to its growth in terms of employee performance, job satisfaction, and overall profitability. This study seeks to fill this gap by examining the link between ethical HR practices and the growth of Zenith Bank Plc in Nasarawa State.

Objectives of the Study

1. To evaluate the impact of ethical HR practices on employee satisfaction and performance in Zenith Bank Plc, Nasarawa State.

2. To assess how ethical HR practices influence organizational growth in Zenith Bank Plc.

3. To explore the role of ethical leadership in fostering an organizational culture that promotes growth in Zenith Bank Plc.

Research Questions

1. How do ethical HR practices affect employee satisfaction and performance in Zenith Bank Plc, Nasarawa State?

2. What is the relationship between ethical HR practices and organizational growth in Zenith Bank Plc?

3. How does ethical leadership contribute to the overall growth of Zenith Bank Plc?

Research Hypotheses

1. Ethical HR practices positively affect employee satisfaction and performance in Zenith Bank Plc, Nasarawa State.

2. There is a significant relationship between ethical HR practices and organizational growth in Zenith Bank Plc.

3. Ethical leadership plays a key role in promoting growth within Zenith Bank Plc.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on the evaluation of ethical HR practices within Zenith Bank Plc, Nasarawa State, specifically examining their effects on employee satisfaction, performance, and organizational growth. The research will be limited to employees working in Zenith Bank branches within Nasarawa State. A limitation of the study is the reliance on subjective perceptions of employees regarding the ethical practices of the organization, which could introduce bias in the responses.

• Ethical HR Practices: HR activities that promote fairness, transparency, equal opportunity, and respect for employees’ rights and welfare.

• Employee Satisfaction: The level of contentment employees feel about their work environment, roles, and compensation.

• Organizational Growth: The overall increase in the capacity of an organization to improve its performance, profitability, and market share.

• Ethical Leadership: Leadership that is based on principles of fairness, honesty, and respect, and that fosters an ethical organizational culture.
